Dramatic arena tour for Japan’s most beloved gaming franchise
A collaboration between STUFISH, Nippon TV and renowned director Kahori Kanaya, Dragon Quest Live brings players to the centre of an epic fantasy journey. This is the first original content arena spectacle to tour throughout Japan, giving this iconic, 30-year-old game a new way to reach its dedicated followers.
“Audience members are able to influence on-stage action through individual wristbands which enable them to vote for plot twists and character actions and weapon choices in advance. The set itself also incorporates dramatic use of projections, screens and 3D mapping, plus multiple stages scattered around the audience space, which aim to involve the audience in the magical world of the video game.”
Dragon Quest Live puts its characters at the heart of the quest. Using an elaborate stage layout that covers the entire arena floor, with a centre stage linked to other island stages by a network of bridges, the show brings fans close to the action.
STUFISH created a realistic interpretation of the undulating landscape of Dragon Quest’s digital scenery, through the use of projection, roll-drop screens, extending bridges and rising island stages. Performers use multiple fly tracks, allowing them to merge with an ever-changing projected landscape.
