Due to the phenomenal success of the “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” arena tour and the growing demand by more and more fans to see the show, STUFISH had the great privilege and pleasure to transform the arena stage architecture into one worthy of the scale of a stadium setting, by putting the arena set into a stadium stage super structure.
Retaining the sensuous, curved stage with its distinctive sloping video wall and beautifully carved portal detail, the augmented design doubled in width from 23m to 51m by including two large off stage video towers 9 wide by 20m tall. However, the real coup de theatre of this design is the impressive cantilever roof over Elton and the band.
With a span of over 15m and a width of 25m, this roof is the largest cantilever roof to ever go on tour. Sitting below an impressive centre screen, the three heroic tusks that jut out over Elton towards his audience not only provide a weather proofing cover for the artist but also contains dozens of moving lights that electrifies this piece of engineering and turns it into an exciting example of Entertainment Architecture.
The intricately carved portal that frames Elton and the band is full of wonderful details taken from his long and illustrious career. Hundreds of individually hand sculpted and painted gold bricks adorned by an intricate web of roses pay homage to the Yellow Brick Road that marks the final chapter in Elton’s long road that started over 50 years ago.
