Nicolas Tse returned to the stage after a 25 year hiatus to perform ‘Evolution Nic Live’ at Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Sports Park in April 2025.
At the heart of the show is a transformative spatial cube that begins as a singular, sculptural form and gradually deconstructs throughout the performance. Pushing the boundaries of performance architecture, the monolithic cube fractures, unfolds, and fragments into a dynamic series of kinetic elements. Towering columns, retractable archways, and linear bridges shift and reposition harmoniously with Nicholas Tse.
As the cube breaks apart, a small aperture emerges at its centre, becoming the focal point of the performance. Throughout the spectacle, Nicholas Tse moves fluidly through this dynamic environment—performing atop a cantilevered bridge, rising within a video-integrated pyramid, passing through a central archway, and interacting directly with the set’s architecture.
Conceived as a machine in motion, the kinetic landscape of expanding geometries transforms the stadium into a multi-level environment. Materiality and visual design play a crucial role in the overall performance. Clad in LED, each element is curated to interact with the performance, creating a seamless integration between the physical and digital worlds.
