Designed specifically for Anna Vissi’s one-night-only performance at OAKA Stadium, the set was conceived as a true 360° “in the round” experience, with 95,000 people surrounding the performance on all sides.
The scale and constraints of the stadium became the starting point for the geometry of the design. At the heart of the pitch, a 20m cylindrical blow-through LED screen rises like a beacon above a 30m circular stage. The transparency of the screen allowed lighting to be positioned behind it, adding depth to both the lighting and content and creating more intricate visual compositions across the stage.
The main stage rises towards its inner edge, where Anna’s band is positioned, before stepping down into a wide, open performance area. This creates a strong central focus while giving Anna and her dancers the space to move freely within the circular stage.
The design aimed to be bold and monumental, while retaining a distinctly feminine quality, a fitting environment for one of Greece’s most iconic artists.
Anna places great importance on her connection with the audience, so bringing her as close to them as possible was central to the design. A long runway extends out from the main stage, drawing the performance deep into the audience and creating an intimate connection within the enormous scale of the stadium. Smaller satellite stages along the route allow the performance to continue unfolding throughout the audience, while two B-stages positioned at opposite ends of the stadium provide further opportunities to shift the focus across the crowd.
For the opening of the show, Kim Gavin the Creative Director envisioned Anna flying into the stadium. To frame her arrival, we designed a circular glowing ring, a halo that beautifully silhouettes Anna as she enters the space. Lightweight and structurally efficient, its simple geometry echoes the circular language of the main set while creating a powerful opening image.
The result was a set designed specifically for one night, one stadium and an extraordinary audience, balancing the monumental scale of OAKA with the intimacy and presence of an artist performing at the centre of it all.
