Blackpink have made history as the first K-Pop band to ever headline Coachella. The annual festival takes place at Coachella Valley, USA in mid April over a period of 6 days and attracts crowds of over 750,000 people. With over 250 million live streams, Blackpink broke live streaming records on this show.
The set design pays tribute to Korean culture and architecture and references the roof of a Hanok, a traditional Korean house. The set sits in the centre of the Coachella stage, 4 feet above stage level with steps cascading down to create performance platforms for the dancers and principles.
The design of the traditional Hanok was reinvented to create a modern hybrid version that stands out and has a visual impact even to crowds watching the show hundreds of metres away from the stage. Above the Hanok, there are 6 square moving lighting pods that rearrange themselves throughout the performance to create strikingly different looks.
