As part of their new recurring series, Apple Music Live showcased an exclusive live performance of Afrobeats megastar Wizkid at the iconic Roundhouse venue in London.
The concept for this one-off show was to create a performance landscape with a very strong, sculptural, and modern look, which challenged yet complimented the architectural space of the iconic venue. The asymmetrical and multi-layered design used materiality, texture and lighting to activate and transform the industrial environment of the room to create an architectural statement.
The curved forms of the stage were bisected by a straight catwalk of light that extended into the audience to immerse the artist. This split created 2 different worlds. The left-hand side of the set stepped up to create areas for the musicians and DJ while the right-hand side sloped to create a dynamic elevated area for both the artist and the choir.
Overhead a large, glowing, circular lightbox bathed the set with light – activating and transforming the room to bathe all in a soft saturated light. Developed for the live audience and captured for streaming, the camera positions and interaction between the stage, audience and artist worked holistically to create an iconic performance environment.
