“This is Arashi” The Live Stream on New Year’s Eve 2020/21
As this show was completely for live stream camera, we were able to explore themes and spaces that would normally not be possible in a traditional live touring show environment.
“This is Arashi” The Live Stream on New Year’s Eve 2020/21. Seen by millions of fans across the world. The stage architecture was created in collaboration with Arashi. STUFISH worked with the team in Japan to develop this multileveled illuminated digital landscape that spanned the whole 130m length of the Tokyo Dome.
At the heart of the design is The Solar Farm. A large mirror ball that descended and split apart to reveal the band inside as the start of the show. Positioned in the centre of the stadium, it was an array of 72 radial LED screens on kinetic arms that display the live feed of fans faces. In the centre was the video column that the mirror ball moves along.
In the background is The Mothership. A multi-layered stage with large video screens to anchor the performance. The centre portal reveals another world set into the seating of the stadium. The show is filmed in both directions from the main stage and backstage to create different spaces and backgrounds both physical and with additional augmented reality layers.
