Michael Bublé returns to the stage with his new album, Higher world tour, opening in the USA.
The show wanted to find a way to create the feeling of a traditional jazz club onstage, whilst still creating a spectacular look and display at the arena scale. We wanted it to feel classic and modern at the same time. By contrasting the hard lines of the grey glossy structure, with the metallic edges of the video frame, against a backdrop of pleated silver crushed velour, we created a blend of aesthetics that would be unique to this show.
The design inspiration came from the Album cover which shows Bublé walking down a road in the dessert. The stage design created the central axis of the video ramp that cut through the band stand to create a road-like catwalk that extended into the audience and led to a smaller satellite stage.
From the minute the audience enter the venue they see the dessert landscape projected onto the closedown Austrian curtain. Five minutes before the show a countdown timer starts and slowly, we see Michael walking out of the distance into focus to create a large image projected onto the curtain.
This theme continues into his entrance where he is seen walking further across the top edge of the sloped frame and then magically appearing onstage. From that point, the show evolves through various lighting and video looks to match the multifaceted performance of Michael. Growing the show into some explosive pyrotechnic and confetti moments and shrinking it down at times to a single spotlight.
