The stage design for Sabrina Carpenter Short ’n’ Sweet tour evokes a playful, fantasy environment. Influenced by classic variety shows, the concept doubles as a vintage television show “The Short ‘n’ Sweet Show’ blending playful nostalgia with romantic elegance.
At the heart of the set is a two-story penthouse structure with four distinct rooms where Sabrina and her company of dancers and band perform various theatrical vignettes throughout the show. The performance is paired with a down to earth invitation to her Living Room for an evening soiree. The show plays out as a whole evening from a sunset slumber party, through the cocktail hour, akin to ‘Playboy After Dark’ and into the disco party, culminating in the morning after.
The style of the stage architecture has hints of mid-century modern design with 2 large open spiral staircases, a large modernist window and other key elements, from a 1960s Malm-inspired fireplace to vintage 1950s TV cameras.
These anchor the stage in a romantic and retro, yet glamourous aesthetic. A catwalk leads to a heart-shaped stage which sinks down to make a 1960s themed conversation pit, transforming the arena into an intimate setting to playfully interact with the audience.
This stage design combines the unique choreography, the fashion, the humour and narrative elements of TV commercial interstitials to create an entire Sabrina world that is holistically ‘Short ‘n’ Sweet TV’. Every element, from the vintage décor, to the use of space, make this show not just a pop concert, but a theatrical, art experience.
