Rex Orange County has kicked off his latest tour, Finally: A Theatre Tour, in support of his new album, The Alexander Technique.
This tour will take the British singer-songwriter across North America this fall, with additional UK dates set for early 2025.
This stage design is a thoughtful reflection of Rex Orange County’s album, which delves into themes of personal growth, mindfulness, and emotional healing. The aim was to craft an immersive, time-based stage architecture that not only evokes these themes but also visually and symbolically mirrors the emotional and seasonal journey portrayed in the performance.
The design merges traditional Japanese architecture with the power of nature, where each element contributes to a sense of seasonal transformation. Shoji screens, made from a mix of polycarbonate panels and printed rice paper, open and close throughout the show, revealing the unfolding of each new season.Translucent petals are suspended from the stage, and with the help of lighting design, the performance transitions smoothly from spring to summer.
At the heart of the design is a cherry blossom tree, whose top half consists of cut cloth, while the lower half is brought to life through digital projections. This duality highlights the delicate balance between reality and the surreal.
