25th September 2021 Global Citizen Live – a 24 hour live broadcast with events and performances filmed across six continents to unite the world to defend the planet and defeat poverty.
Global Citizen Live took place on Saturday 25th September 2021 in New York, Paris, Lagos, Los Angeles, London, Rio de Janeiro, Sydney and Mumbai.
The show featured some of the worlds biggest artists coming to together to rally citizens in demanding that governments, major corporations, and philanthropists work together by focusing on the most urgent, interrelated threats hitting those in poverty the hardest – climate change, vaccine equity, and famine.
STUFISH designed the stage architecture for Paris, New York and Lagos.
Global Citizen Live in Paris took place on the Champ de Mars in front of the iconic Eiffel Tower and the stage design acted as a frame to view the tower in the background during the performances. The Global Citizen red circle is at the centre of the design, creating a dynamic structure and beacon at the heart of the stage. The circle spanned the full height of the stage and contained lighting and video to surround the artists, creating an ever-changing beautiful backdrop.
100 tree saplings and plants were used to create an organic backdrop to the show, that celebrates nature and reinforces the message of planting 1 billion trees to fight climate change. After the show, the tree saplings and plants that have been used in the design of the stage, will be replanted.
The New York show, which took place in Central Park, used a floating red circle at the centre of its design, that hovered over the stage and completed with video and lighting. Panoramic screens allowed the performances to be surrounded with video content and the stage also had a double-sided video screen, which sat on a revolve allowing the artists to change over quickly.
The side stages created a beautiful, folded backdrop of the New York skyline, which were made in an inherently recyclable material. Stufish worked with a local New York nursery to provide 60 tree saplings for the organic backdrop, which will be replanted across the city.
“STUFISH Entertainment Architects are honored to continue to work with Global Citizen and to be part of this very special concert. At STUFISH we believe urgent action is required to help protect our planet and to help those suffering from poverty, which is why it was important to us to take part in this incredible event and celebrate the amazing work of Global Citizen.”
Finally, the Global Citizen Live show in Lagos at the New Afrika Shrine, featured a layered red circle that framed the logo of the New Afrika Shrine built by Fela Kuti. A folded metal backdrop contained a video strip that communicated the key messages of Global Citizen Live throughout the show.
The design of the stage used local materials for the stage surface and the backdrops. Like in Paris and New York to help reinforce the message of climate change, 30 native tree saplings were used along the backdrop of the main and stage, which will be replanted around the local area.
