Stufish have continued to collaborate with Madonna since her MDNA (2012) and Rebel Heart Tour (2015) with a new series of intimate theatre shows to celebrate the Madame X album.
STUFISH have created an every changing world that evolves throughout the show to provide a labyrinth like journey for Madame X as she explores her different personas. We took reference from MC Escher and created a set of scenic pieces that could be constantly reconfigured and moved around like a rubik cube.
At times the set fills the whole stage and creates a multi-levelled sculpture that is a canvas for mapped video projection and performer choreography. At other times the stage can be more minimal and empty to be a panoramic backdrop for large-scale video images.
One side of the set is architectural with a grey concrete finish that is constantly layered with projection and lighting. The other side can be arranged to form a scenic, Portuguese Fado club to create a location for the main style of music can be performed from the Madame X album.
This complex show reinvents the way that Madonna connects with her audience and how she performs throughout the journey of the show. Together with over 30 other performers, from musicians, choir and dancers the show is a fusion of pop show, fashion, art installation and powerful theater, mixed with high tech effects that transform the stage constantly over the 2.5 hours.
The design of the show has been created to fit into the various theatres across the USA and Europe. The show opened in BAM theatre, Brooklyn in September 2019 and the tour will run through till March 2020
Madame X is a crowd pleaser; a gorgeously designed and artfully executed production, skilfully mixing Broadway calibre set design, scrims, video and lighting to create the world of the elusive Madame X
